Basic Pizza Dough
Posted by HashWho can resist the great aroma of a pizza being baked nearby? Probably no one, specially not me. Well, here we start off with teaching you how to be an expert pizza chef. In this series of recipes you will learn how to do the basics of pizza – the dough or the base which houses all those great tasting pizzas from all over the world. The pizza base can be thin or crispy, medium, or lastly thick and chewy. It is up to your liking to go for a particular one. Ok, lets get started.
INGREDIENTS:
* 2 packages dry yeast
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 4 cups flour
* 1/2 teaspoon sugar
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 1 1/2 cup lukewarm water
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Dissolve yeast in water; set aside for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
2. Combine flour, salt, sugar and oil in bowl; make a well in the center. When the water/yeast mixture is bubbly, pour into center of well. Start kneading dough, bringing flour toward center of bowl; gradually increase kneading motion.
3. If dough feels dry, add a little more water; if it feels sticky, add more flour.
4. Knead vigorously until dough is smooth and elastic. Roll it into a ball and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rest for about 20 minutes in warm place.
5. Beat the dough with your palm to expel any gas formed while fermenting. Roll the dough again into ball and place in a greased bowl. Baste with oil. Cover with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator.
6. When ready to use, place dough on floured counter top or table. Flatten with your hands or a rolling pin, working from center outwards. Push dough evenly onto a pizza pan, forming a 12-inch circle with edges thicker than middle. Apply your favorite topping in desired amounts. Bake in hot oven (475 to 500 degrees) until golden brown.
